The cost to those who look up to you… when you have limited beliefs

The hidden cost of doing nothing or worse destroying, often is paid for by others who aren’t as strong as you are. The villagers and others who weren’t fighters lost hope when they saw David’s brothers and other soldiers lament the fate of their home and living. By not standing, those who aspire to stand lose hope and give up before even starting.

That unspoken hidden cost is why many great ideas have died at the hands of reckless comments. How many more great things in society would have been created if care was made to support, or at least hear out an idea. Just because you don’t think it can be doesn’t mean it must not be. Granted, sometimes, that is the case.

The impact of unlimited thinking…

When David took a stand, there were a lot of whispers and hushed comments spread about the place. He shook up the establishment and disrupted the status quo by standing up for what he believed in. In the long run, when people saw his conviction and courage, they were galvanized and the people rose up and fought valiantly.

Many people fail to understand one small detail of the David and Goliath story. The Philistine were their own military might. Without the help of Goliath, they would have destroyed the camp of Israel. Only divine intervention would have saved them, and did.

However, breaking from that spiritual point, the fact that David stood up and dropped the giant with one stone, the energy that shot threw the camp galvanized the morale so much so that the army of Israel had enough heart to now beat the better army of Philistine.

When you take a stand, you’re helping yourself. But you’re helping others who look up to you get their act together and move forward. That is why there are many influencers online. People want to see it is possible because their own beliefs systems don’t see it. When they see example of it, then, they can act.

Practical Auto-Piloting

Auto-pilot living is not entirely bad. It has it’s place. Most things need to be set to auto-pilot. But many don’t realize that you have to set the auto-pilot the direction you want. How you set your thoughts in the morning has a great impact on how your day will shape out. Sure, it won’t prevent the unexpected, but it sets the tone for how you handle those things in the course of a day.

Some programing in auto-pilot mode is helpful. Having a strong belief that you can grow and learn is one such example.

Other programs, you just need to let go. Such as thinking you’re a failure. No one is a failure. People can experience failures, but people themselves are not failures. They can have multiple failings, yet still not be a failure. So long as you’re alive and able to learn, you’re not a failure. That title can only be given after your death because then you can’t change anything or learn anything. Please, understand this.

Parents, do not teach your kids that they are failures. No one sets out to teach that, but if your belief systems allow negative talk to happen about your child’s life, they will learn from you that they’re failures. (you’re just like your dad, a total failure good for nothing sack of dead weight).

Modeling the behaviors of failure will teach them they can’t do things. Parents who give up in frustration before giving a good solid effort often let their dejection show in such a way that a child picks up the thought that they can’t do as well… after all, if dad who is my hero can’t do it, what hope is there of me doing so?

enabling is not the solution either. Telling a child they’re awesome just to spare feelings is not it either. Helping that child understand grit, practice, pivoting, and learning from mistakes is far superior

While on the parenting subject, all these programmings can be addressed. Dialog that involves question asking will help lead the way to helping your child(ren) have the right programing. That will be the topic of another blog post. Bottom line, keep tabs on how you believe what you believe.
