What’s your average like?
One popular phrase in the self-help community is that you’re the average of the five people closest to you. Many anecdotal stories can back that up. In the context of the seminar, what five men are you close to? What does that say about your average?
Are you getting supported towards your dreams or are you being pulled into distractions that create problems for your home? Are you encouraged to budget better and listen to your family more? Or are you invited to watch the game and stay out late?
The average of who is around you has deep impact on the decisions, the quality of these decisions, which has long term consequences on the legacy you’re creating. This is where the value of the Men’s Ministry starts to pay dividend when done right.
Most friendships are done by convenience. Proximity. Locality. Few people carefully set out to find quality friends. Most will just distance themselves from friendships that aren’t working. However, if there is such a place, like the church, where men gather to actively improve their average, then, the need to hunt for quality friendships is handled.
A well run program will have a degree of accountability built into it. Guys can check in on each other to make sure they’re doing what they plan to do. Nothing like a few text messages reminding you that you have to randomly buy your wife flowers to actually get you to buy the flowers. Who benefits? The man of course. Happy wife, happy life. And the lady also benefits from a man who is more sensitive to her needs.
What about days when a man is feeling super frustrated with his wife? If he had a mastermind of men to turn to, vent, discuss, and plan a solution, a few things would become quite apparent. First, you’re not alone in the the moment of your frustration. Other men are going through the same. Second, it’s not nearly as bad as you think it is. Other guys have figured it out, because other wives have done the same. Third, when you do discuss things with your wife, you have more than one way of seeing the problem, and chances are good instead of blaming, you’ve got potential solutions that avoids a fight.
Safety
In simple terms, when guys learn, in a safe place, how to connect with their emotions, process them, and grow from the lessons they hold, everyone wins. The great bond that forms not just at the barber shop but when guys fellowship together as friends is a very valuable asset to the advancement of the home. As a CEO of your home, you have to align all the possible resources you can to succeed. Get yourself a tribe of men who can boost your average in the safest emotional way possible.
